As a fitness expert with a background in exercise physiology, I can tell you that planks are an excellent exercise for strengthening your core muscles, which include your abs, lower back, hips, and shoulders. However, when it comes to burning belly fat, it's important to understand that spot reduction, or losing fat from a specific area of the body by targeting that area with exercises, is not scientifically supported.
Planks can help to increase muscle mass in your core, which can lead to a more toned and defined appearance. Additionally, having more muscle mass can boost your metabolism, which means you burn more calories at rest and during activity. However, to effectively reduce overall body fat, which will lead to a reduction in belly fat, you need to combine regular exercise, including both strength training and cardiovascular activities, with a calorie-controlled diet.
In summary, while planks are great for core strength and can contribute to a leaner physique, they alone are not a magic solution for burning belly fat. A comprehensive approach that includes a healthy diet and a variety of exercises is the key to achieving your fitness goals.

Spot-training doesn't work. You can do planks until you collapse, and it's still not going to magically melt away belly fat. Sure, ab exercises can tone those muscles underneath. But working the muscles in one area doesn't also tell your body, "Lose fat here."
