Acute ischemia in the brain, also known as cerebral ischemia or cerebrovascular ischemia, is a medical emergency where the blood supply to a part of the brain is suddenly reduced or cut off. This can occur due to the blockage of a blood vessel by a blood clot or plaque, known as a thrombus or embolus. When blood flow is compromised, the brain tissue does not receive the necessary oxygen and nutrients it needs to function, leading to cerebral hypoxia. If the ischemia is not promptly treated, it can result in the death of brain cells, a condition known as cerebral infarction, or more commonly referred to as an ischemic stroke.
cerebral ischemia, cerebrovascular ischemia) is a condition in which there is insufficient blood flow to the brain to meet metabolic demand. This leads to poor oxygen supply or cerebral hypoxia and thus to the death of brain tissue or cerebral infarction / ischemic stroke.
